AI tools can tidy a resume. They also invent metrics, inflate titles and add skills you do not have. Those are the mistakes that fail interviews and background checks. Use a tool to tighten sentences you wrote. Read every line aloud and delete anything you cannot explain with a real example.
Keep the facts yours
Start from your own bullets, dates and tools. Ask the tool to shorten or clarify. Refuse any sentence that adds a percentage, a team size or a technology you did not provide. If you do not remember the number, it does not belong on the page.
- Never let a tool change your job title or your dates.
- Reject "spearheaded" and similar filler when you did the work of one contributor.
- Keep a copy of the original notes so you can undo a confident rewrite.
Sound like a person who did the work
Generic profiles are easy to spot and hard to trust. Replace abstract claims with the system, the customer or the report you touched. If the sentence could sit on anyone's resume, it is not helping you.
- Name the real tool, domain and outcome.
- Cut adjectives such as "results-driven" and "dynamic".
- Read it once as if you were the interviewer. Mark every claim you would ask about.
Use AI on the right task
Good uses: trimming a long bullet, checking grammar, suggesting a clearer heading. Poor uses: writing your career from a job description, or guessing keywords. The posting can remind you of skills. It cannot supply experience.
- Paste your draft, not only the job advert.
- Ask for shorter lines, then edit them yourself.
- Stop when the page is true and easy to skim. More generation makes it worse.
AI can edit your sentences. It cannot remember your job. If you did not do it, delete it.

- They notice generic writing and facts that collapse in the interview. They do not need to detect the tool. Truth is the standard.
Can I ask AI to tailor my resume for each job?
- You can ask it to highlight relevant bullets you already have. You should reorder and delete. Do not add the posting's skills automatically.
Is it acceptable to use AI for grammar?
- Yes. Grammar help is useful, especially if English is not the language you write in every day. The content still has to be yours.
